About Bitcoin SV
“Satoshi’s vision”
In November 2018, a massive debate erupted in the Bitcoin Cash (BCH) community. One camp, led by Roger Ver and Jihan Wu of Bitmain—the largest Bitcoin mining pool in the world—wanted to maintain a block size of 32MB while also allowing for replay protections; this came to be known as “Bitcon ABC.” The opposing camp, led by Craig Steven Wright and billionaire Calvin Ayre, wanted to fork the coin and in turn created Bitcoin SV (BSV) which would allow for block sizes up to 128MB.
Although Bitcoin ABC has assumed the Bitcoin Cash ticker (BCH), the Bitcoin SV fork was successful and BSV is now trading on multiple exchanges. Ranked as among the top 10 cryptocurrencies by market capitalization at the time of writing, Bitcoin SV claims to be in line with Satoshi Nakamoto’s “original vision.” Detractors of the project claim that BSV is being led by the huckster Craig Wright who has fraudulently claimed he, himself, is Satoshi Nakamoto which many members in the cryptocurrency community have criticized such as the founder of Ethereum, Vitalik Buterin.
There is still much debate over the longevity of Bitcoin SV as a project and whether or not it has genuine support or is simple astroturfing on cryptocurrency websites with its many media outlets and sources of funding.
ICO Price
There was no ICO for Bitcoin SV. Instead, BSV was created from a hard fork on the Bitcoin Cash network on November 15th, 2018. Anybody who held BCH received BSV at a ratio of 1:1.
Key Features
Bitcoin SV has a few features that differentiates it from other Bitcoin forks.
- More scalable: the BSV team is primarily focused on delivering capacity-increases. BSV runs on a continuous cycle of performance tests.
- Promises “safe and instant” transactions: BSV believes in it being “digital cash” and is aiming for instant transactions.
- Holds itself as being the only manifestation of Bitcoin to uphold Satoshi’s original vision.
Currently, BSV also boasts high liquidity and is listed on most major exchanges like Binance.
About the Team
Little is known about the Bitcoin SV team other than its leading voice, Craig Wright. Because Bitcoin SV is already usable, there is not much need for development: however, information on the existing developers are scant to none.
There is also no real roadmap although Wright has spoken on the future of BSV saying:
“In 2 to 3 years we expect to be at a capacity of 2 to 4 billion transactions a block, that is 6.5 million transactions a second. This is also Visa, MasterCard, banking in SWIFT, and ALL global currencies (not just crypto) in under 15% of a block. And this is the start.”
Bitcoin SV Price History
Because BSV is still so new, it does not have much price history to go by. It’s all-time-high since the hard fork has been $127 in mid-December but has since fallen to $76 at the time of writing.
