👉 El Salvador Looks At Digital Securities Bill, BTC Bonds On The Way
El Salvador’s Legislative Assembly is evaluating a draft bill that would regulate digital securities – a sign that the country is moving forward with issuing Bitcoin-backed bonds.
The bill looks to create a National Digital Assets Commission that would oversee digital asset issuers, service providers and parties involved in the public offerings of digital securities.
President Nayib Bukele had previously revealed plans to raise $1 billion through Bitcoin-backed bonds, however the process was delayed from its planned target date in March of this year.
👉 New York Governor Signs Crypto Mining Moratorium Into Law
New York governor Kathy Hochul has signed the Proof-of-Work (PoW) mining moratorium bill into law, effectively banning crypto mining in the state for two years.
The moratorium will both prevent new mining operations from popping up, as well as deny renewals of licenses to those already in business. There is an exception for facilities that use 100% renewable energy.
👉 Japanese Central Bank To Launch CBDC Experiment In Early 2023
The Bank of Japan will launch a central bank digital currency (CBDC) experiment early next year, working with several financial institutions to stress test the CBDC.
The tests will prototype deposits and withdrawals, as well as seek how to function in the absence of an internet connection. A decision to adopt the currency will be made in 2026.
