An investigation into users of the Ethereum Name Service (ENS) has exposed an unsettling amount of personal details linked to ENS addresses.

By observing links between ENS names and the addresses which registered them, the investigators were able to uncover the identity, balances, and business deals of prominent figures.

The ENS is designed to make transactions with cryptocurrency easier, akin to using an email address – rather than the random string of numbers and letters seen with public keys.

The richest man in Russia, Vladamir Potanin, has received approval from Russia’s Central Bank to launch his own digital currency.

The currency is designed to streamline the payment system, and will allow the bearer to purchase goods such as metals, plane tickets, and goods sold by Potanin’s own businesses.

The platform is expected to go live by the end of 2020.
