The LA Dodgers want to give out a crypto-collectible for your Ethereum wallet.

Some big news for Ethereum just broke: the Los Angeles Dodgers have announced that they will release a digital collectible that can be stored in a fan’s Ethereum wallet. The Los Angeles Dodgers are a pro baseball team in the MLB league.

Crypto tokens will be distributed which will unlock one of three digital player bobbleheads. These will be stored on the Ethereum blockchain. This is the first crypto-based giveaway in pro sports. The giveaway is expected to happen on Sept 21st.

The idea is a huge visibility boost for Ethereum despite bearish market sentiments. The first-ever Digital Bobblehead Night will be held at Dodger Stadium. The first 40,000 fans will receive a unique code. Upon receiving this code, they can go on the Dodgers website to unlock their digital bobblehead which they can then send to their Ethereum wallet. Upon unlocking their token, they receive a unique bobblehead of either Clayton Kershaw, Justin Turner, or Kenley Jansen.

The Dodger Executive Vice President, Lon Rosen, has said that “we’re excited for our first-ever Crypto giveaway, and to explore an entirely new marketplace with our fanbase.” He added on that he “hopes this piques the interest of Dodger fans and will help launch a new age of digital collectibles and promotions.”

The Dodgers are looking to expand their fan base to a new array of crypto-fans. They also seem to want to standardize a new era of collectibles, ones that can be digitally verified for their authenticity.

All digital collectibles on the ETH blockchain are ERC721 standard tokens which cannot be emulated and is impossible to recreate. Cryptokitties, another digital collectible on the Ethereum blockchain, uses this same token standard.

Perhaps in the near future, we can expect other pro sports teams to follow the Dodgers in attempting to establish team-related collectibles on the ETH blockchain.
