👉 Visa Acquires CryptoPunk NFT For $150K

Payments giant Visa has announced that it has acquired a CryptoPunk non-fungible token (NFT), taking its very first steps into the world of digital collectibles.

The firm bought CryptoPunk 7610 – one out of a collection of 10,000 digital avatars from Larva Labs in 2017 – for about $150,000 in Ether (ETH) last week.

Visa is known to own multiple historical items as part of an art collection relating to commerce.

👉 Cardano Prepares For “Alonzo” Hard Fork

Layer-1 cryptocurrency Cardano (ADA) is preparing for its long-awaited launch of smart contracts, via a hard fork called “Alonzo”.

The update is planned for launch sometime in Q3 this year, however no firm date has been set. Once activated, it will signify the end of Cardano’s “Shelley” phase, giving way for the “Goguen” era.

Coinbase president and COO Emilie Choi has announced that USD Coin (USDC) reserves will be consolidated into cash and treasuries, following backlash over its previous diversification.

USDC had expanded the assets in its reserves beyond cash and cash equivalents earlier this year, despite claiming every USDC was “backed by a dollar in a bank account”.
